Low-growing, colony forming perennial herb with deeply cleft 5-lobed leaves and showy flowers atop a short stem. The flowers are pink and white with prominent parallel lines in the petals. The flower is followed by a distinctive pointed, curved seed capsule that resembles a crane’s bill and gives this plant its common name. Spreads slowly through rhizomes, but is not aggressive. Thrives in deciduous woodland shade and on moist slopes and bottomlands.
