Symphyotrichum lateriflorum or Calico Aster produces an erect, arching, slender, branching stem with slender dark green pointed leaves and multiple tiny blooms. The flowers are about 1/2″ across with white petals and a yellow center that turns red-purple as it ripens. The flowers often line the upper half of the stem in late fall. Compact seed heads appear in the center of the spent flowers. Late season bloomer that provides good pollinator support after most plants have stopped blooming.
