An upright herbaceous perennial with multiple stems topped with a flat disk of small white flowers in late summer. The large velvety, opposite leaves join at the stem giving the appearance that they are perforated by the stem. The small flowers provide nectar for many pollinators and butterflies, including Fritillaries, Swallowtails, Hairstreaks, and various bees. Does well in low-lying or moist areas. The leaves were traditionally used as a compress on sprains and minor wounds.
