Tiarella cordifolia is a low-growing cluster of palmate, dark green, deeply veined basal leaves with purple markings at the center that put up a slender stalk lined with tiny flowers in spring. The flowers are small and star-shaped with delicate, frilly white petals. Papery seed capsules full of tiny black seeds follow the flowers. This plant spreads by rhizomes to form colonies and makes an excellent groundcover in moist, shady areas.
