Stokesia laevis or Stokes Aster is a clump forming, low growing perennial that puts up short stems with large showy flowers. Flowers are about 2″ across with frilly outer petals that range from bachelor’s button blue to deep lavendar. Multiple blooms follow one another and are even more prolific when spent blossoms are removed. The basal leaves are evergreen in warmer areas. This plant is drought tolerant. Excessive winter moisture can kill this plant, so avoid low or moist areas when planting.
