Frangula caroliniana or Carolina Buckthorn is a deciduous tree that reaches up to 15ft tall. This tree produces subtle clusters of yellow flowers at the bases of its leaves. These develop into small red fruits ¼ of an inch in diameter that turn black when ripe. The berries are toxic to humans but are forage for birds and other wildlife.
