Juncus effusus has clump-forming, erect, grass-like stalks that spread through rhizomes once established. Prefers moist, stream-bank type environments, but will tolerate dryer soils with consistent irrigation. Excellent for erosion control on stream banks and in low-lying areas or rain garden borders. Readily self-seeds, and spreads through rhizomes so site accordingly.
