Native hazelnuts, Corylus americana and Corylus cornuta, are delicious for humans as well as wildlife, but see if you can beat the birds to the harvest! Excellent thicket forming shrub appropriate for a large space that needs filling. European coppicing/pruning methods can be used to keep this shrub under control in a smaller landscape.
