Gelsemium sempervirens is a climbing evergreen vine with dark green glossy foliage, and large showy yellow flowers followed by a small red-brown fruit. The foliage turns a yellow to purplish color in winter but persists until new growth sprouts. All parts of the plant are poisonous if ingested.
