Iris cristata is a low growing fan-like cluster of arching, slender leaves that put forth a delicate flower stalk topped with an eye-catching bloom. The flower is a small, six-petaled bloom with three very prominent much larger petals that are blue to violet with a distinctive white, yellow, and/or purple marking in the mid-vein. Spreads quickly by means of creeping rhizomes, and will form dense colonies. This plant thrives in well-drained, moist soil in part shade, but will tolerate full sun with consistent watering. Keeping leaf litter off of the plant crown will help to prevent smothering and decay
