Larval host for: Pawpaw sphinx, Dolba hyloeus
The green, oval leaves of Ilex decidua, also known as Possum Haw, turn yellow in the fall. The shrub is a dioecious species, male and female plants are needed for fruit production. Small mammals, songbirds, and game birds such as the Eastern Bluebird, Wild Turkey, and Quail use the bright red berries produced in the fall as forage. This species is also a larval host for the Pawpaw sphinx, Dolba hyloeus.
