Chelone lyonii or Pink Turtlehead, a perennial herbaceous plant, grows 2 to 4 feet tall. It produces pink flowers that grow in clusters along a raceme from August to October that attract bees, hummingbirds, and butterflies. The leaves are opposite and have sharply toothed edges. The Eastern Chelone species are larval host plants for the Baltimore Checkerspot (Euphydryas phaeton).
