Twining, climbing, deciduous vine with large overlapping heart-shaped leaves. In early to mid-spring the flowers bloom, which resemble a curvy tobacco pipe. The flowers are followed by tubular seed pods. This vine is the larval host/food source for the large and beautiful Pipevine Swallowtail butterfly. It’s quick growing habit and dense foliage make this vine suited for arbors or trellises, especially near a porch or patio where shade is desired. Trim back in late winter if spreading is in need of control.
