tall white flower stalks of Veronicastrum virginicum (wingstem)

This week’s featured native plant is Culver's Root, Veronicastrum virginicum.  A native of our Southeastern Prairies, Culver's root blooms for several weeks from early summer until the dog days of August.  The feathery white spires of blooms are abuzz with both bees and butterflies. The plentiful seeds, that are ripe in September, provide plenty of forage for seed eating birds.
