Styrax americana (snowbell) white and yellow flowers

This week's featured native shrub is American Styrax, Styrax americanus. Once this small tree reaches five feet tall it starts blooming, and how! In late spring the whole tree becomes festooned with white stars that dangle from the underside of the branches. The flowers dance in passing breezes, and keep your bees happy.
